Josiah Matthew has arrived… 2 days late and perfect. This is the first baby that I have ever delivered after my due date. Out of the three third trimesters that I have experienced, this was the most laid back (with Daniella we were moving, with Anya we were in the thick of a city council campaign.) I think this gave me more time to think about labor. I took a bath, and imagined having the baby and then calling Matt up to see him. I went swimming at the Bellwood pool, and daydreamed about the looks on peoples face if I had him right there. I think I secretly wanted to shock people. And going late afforded countless opportunities to dream up hair brained situations. I am a big fan of doing something memorable while in labor (as if giving birth isn’t enough : ) ) So Josiah came two days late and the doctor was there this time and he didn’t “fall” out like Anya. In one dreadful moment I told the midwife, “I forget how to push!” Alas, he did come out as they always do, and he’s gorgeous. The most shocking part – a head or gorgeous blond hair.
We named him Josiah Matthew, after his great grandfather and the boy king of Israel. Here’s a picture of the men in my life.
And here’s one of my favorite newborn pictures. I know some might consider this odd, but I love pictures of babies wailing. It’s just a reminder that the lungs work and everything is going to be alright.
Finally, I’ll include a picture of me with the little guy. Towards the end of this pregnancy I had several people ask me if I was having twins, and one saleswoman point at me in a store and say, “Wow, look at how big she is.” So this is the look of a happy mom, and a mom who is glad to start the process of losing those 60 pounds that I gained this go around.
