Altoona, PA – Family photography

It was one of those days.  Chaos had erupted in the Garber house.  4 unhappy children, a mess of new groceries to be put away, and one frantic mother.  When Josiah attempted to use my new stock pile of tissue boxes to build a tower I almost snapped… almost.  But then I realized his brilliance.  Bags and bags of groceries awaiting placement in the pantry had just become the day’s playground.

We built castles from cans of chickpeas, black beans, and pasta.  We built garages for our race cars from cans of corn.  We built nurseries for our baby dolls from containers of apple juice.  We fortified our architecture against a raging, snotty nosed toddler (we love you, Timmy!)  We plotted, we laughed, we rejoiced, and Timmy cried.

In the end 4 of us had a great time and one toddler took an early nap.

I love you, my creative children.  These are the best years of my life.

Medford, NJ family photography

I think what I love best about photography is the laughter.  I love love love capturing laughter.  My favorite pictures are the ones where you can hear the laughter years later.

Every Christmas my family assembles my parents’ grandchildren in their Christmas garb and “attempts” to keep the babies happy.  To my surprise this was one of the least dramatic (and that is a good thing) photoshoots yet.  We got so many great combinations of expressions that I am still overwhelmed trying to choose which ones to print for my mother.

Here’s to cousins!

A toddler and the snow

“Outside!” he said and brought his boots to his father.

“Outside!” he said and went to retrieve his jacket.

“Outside!” he said and firmly planted his 2 foot frame by the front door.

It was the snow – fresh and bright.  It beckoned his name.  Something wild and wonderful called to his little man heart.

So I tied his boots and I zipped his jacket.  I tucked his bleach blond hair into his hood and sent him out with Daddy to stack firewood.

I love you, my 2 year old Josiah, and I love your little man heart.

Katie and Jason – Altoona, PA wedding

Jason noticed Katie.  He noticed her for a year.  He noticed her smile.  He noticed her playfulness.  He noticed how the room lit up when she entered.

Katie didn’t notice Jason back.  Until one day he mustered up the courage to tell her what beauty she brought to his world.  And then Katie noticed him.  She really noticed him.

Katie asked Jason to climb a mountain.  This was not his first choice of activity on his day off, but he adored her.  Jason climbed a mountain with Katie.

Jason asked Katie to share all of her heart with him.  This was her first choice for a life time.

Many blessings on you, Jason and Katie, as you begin your next adventure together.

Katie wore green slippers to her wedding because they made her smile.  She’s a woman after my own heart.

Thank you my brave friends for enduring the snow for amazing wedding pictures.

I love, love, loved this lighting as the snow acted as a natural reflector brightening your already radiant faces.  If temperature weren’t a factor I could have photographed outside all weekend.

Andrew and Nathalia – Altoona, PA wedding

4 years ago Andrew traveled to Brazil on a missions trip.  While there he met Nathalia.  It was impossible for him not to notice the tall, slender beauty.  It was impossible not to notice her poise and smile.  It was impossible not to notice her inner beauty and zeal for life.  He had never met anyone like Nathalia in America.  He had never met anyone like her in Canada, Africa, Europe or any of the other far off lands he had journeyed.

Nathalia was his soul mate.

Months later Andrew trekked back to Brazil.  He told Nathalia that he was ready to find a new home, that the US was no longer his home.  He asked her to be his home.  And the dream came true: they wed.

Visas are hard to come by in Brazil because of endless red tape.  Andrew refused to return to see family and dear friends without his bride.  Finally after years of waiting, she received her visa.  They returned to the states for a month.  Amidst American friends and family they declared again their vows to one another.

Andrew and Nathalia, I loved this wedding.  Andrew, I loved the delight on your face as you introduced friends to your bride for the first time.  I loved the tear rolling down your cheek as you said, “till death do us part” as if it were the first time these words crossed your lips.  Nathalia, I loved the admiration in your eyes for your best friend.  I loved that you were the life of the party in a group of new friends.  There is no doubt: you were made for each other.

December was Nathalia’s first time to see snow ever.  Photographing people in the snow is a delight, but photographing Nathalia in the snow was a rare treasure.
