A poem for Timmy at 21 Months – State College Photographer

Have you seen my daddy’s shoes?

I wore them just the other day.

They’re shiny and they’re black,

A perfect pair for outside play.

I put brother’s in the kitchen, sister’s on the stair

Mother’s in the cellar cupboard.

But my daddy’s, oh my daddy’s shoes,

He cannot find them anywhere.

Each of my children has gone through “the shoe stage.”

Little Timmy has not been an exception.

As the daddy (and poet’s husband) who allegedly cannot find his shoes, I concur that each of our children seem to go through a phase of trying out my shoes. Timmy, however, is the first child that I remember taking my shoes to the outdoors, which I spotted first on his feet, then found one again while mowing the grass.

Katie + Patrick – State College, PA wedding photographer

Kate and Patch introduced me to woodsmen’s sports.

Their romance began on the Penn State Woodsmen’s sporting team.

Kate sent me a youtube link to an explanation, and I lost myself in the abyss of youtubedum watching cool plaid shirted people hack sawing, chain sawing, climbing up tall log polls and doing all other sorts of way cool things that I never knew people actually do.  (ps Kate and Patch, sorry, I know I’m botching up the the proper woodsmen’s verbiage.)

Kate and Patch, you are the real deal.  Genuine.  Strong.  Humble.  Crazy-in-love.  And let’s not forget awesome with an axe.  I wish this world was filled with lots lots lots more people like you.

Thanks for letting me in on the fun and inspiring me with your deep, abiding love.

Everyone felt comfortable around Kate.  She’s so cheerful and warm.

Love these details…

The wedding was held at Kate’s aunt and uncle’s vegetable farm.  By the entrance there was a charming vegetable stand.  This is where I got my favorite shot of the rings.

I didn’t just take one shot though because the awesome clerk at the vegetable stand got really into my ring shots with me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mr. (I am so sorry I forget your name) vegetable man for your enthusiasm for not just vegetables but for the creative process as well : ).   I really liked the veggie guy with ring earrings that you put together.  I don’t ever ever ever expect to have that much fun shooting rings again.

Ahhh… the ceremony… let the crying and laughter begin full force. This ceremony was all heart.

And here is my favorite laughter that hurts your belly shot

Patch is a woodsmen so we needed woodsy pictures

Here’s some shots from inside the vegetable stand

This is Kate’s aunt and uncle.  They worked so hard to have the wedding on their farm.  I adore their love for one another.

I will say I really enjoyed eating food that was picked a few feet away.

One of the best parts of the farm was the flower gardens.  A perfect location for romance.

Kate, you are lovely… and so much fun!!!!

We headed out to the flower gardens where all of the lady’s bouquets came from.

Wow!

You know it’s a good day when the groom is wearing cowboy boots.

More fun!

Did I mention we put Patch to work?

The day was beautiful, Kate and Patch.  I am so thankful for my amazing clients and the privilege to be a part of their wedding day.

On my 9th Anniversary – Altoona, PA wedding photographer

Grow old along with me!

The best is yet to be,

The last of life, for which the first was made:

Our times are in His hand

Who saith “A whole I planned,

Youth shows but half; trust God: see all, nor be afraid!”

– from Rabbi Ben Ezra by Robert Browning

I discovered my first wrinkles this year.  I actually don’t know how long they’ve been there; it could have been years.  After a long time of wearing exclusively glasses, I made the plunge and switched to contacts.  The contacts let me see my face in so much greater detail.  So there they are.  Wrinkles.  Several on my forehead and around my eyes.

The discovery of wrinkles has been a mixed bag for me.  At first I felt shocked.  Should I wear makeup now? Next I was excited.  I’ve looked forward to age in many ways (hoping it might grant me additional maturity : )  And then I was sad.  Some days when life is so good, there are reminders that it’s short. Even 80 years is short.

One of my favorite parts of a wedding is watching the couples dance who have been married for decades.  That’s what marriage is all about – the long haul – through years of laughter and pain, abiding joy and struggle.  And wrinkles.

I know there are no promises that we will live on this earth long enough to slow dance when our bodies are covered with creases and our bones are brittle.  I dream of a day when we dance at the wedding of a grandson or granddaughter.  But whether or not that day ever comes, I cherish our marriage.  I cherish these 9 years since I said, “I do.”

The journey is beautiful, and you and the children are my greatest earthly treasures.

Happy 9th Anniversary!

Love,

your slightly wrinkled wife, Christina

Nick + Kate – Altoona, PA wedding photographer

He will tell you his first love affair began at 13.  He fell in love with music.  Organ music to be precise.  His passion for this instrument increased over time…

And then he met Kate.  It was the first few days as college freshmen.  Over a punch bowl, she asked him his favorite composers.  And a new love affair began.

Kate asked me, “Can you get a few pictures of me admiring Nick playing the organ?  Cause that’s what I do.”

Nick plays the organ at the Cathedral so we started our photo journey there.

We headed outside to catch some of the amazing light from the Cathedral steps.

Then we headed over to this mega fun alcove grab some shots.

Kate’s laughter was contagious.

This is a beautiful estate on the north end of Altoona.

This was one of my favorite pictures of the evening.

And these last two made me the most happy.  Kate is joy personified.

Altoona Wedding Photographer – the second shooters

If I photograph your wedding this year, most likely you will meet one of my two amazing second shooters.  I am planning on writing a post about each of them.  I’ll begin with Sarah…

Sarah Garber that is.  Yes, she’s related.  She’s one of my four incredible sister-in-laws.  I first met the then seven-year-old Sarah when she came to visit her big brother at my college.  She hid behind her mother’s legs peaking out often enough that I remember her sweet smile even then.

Sarah is laughter and joy and gentleness all rolled into one.

She’s also the buffest gal I know – like the I-can-do-twenty-pull-ups type of buff.

Sarah’s an artist.  My in-laws home is lined with her water colors and pastels.

She loves children, dancing in the rain, and composing songs on the piano (but not playing said songs in front of a crowd.)

The best part about working with Sarah is that I get massive amounts of time making memories with one of my favorite people.  I cherish this summer and one of the main reasons is because of my smiling, sororal second shooter.

Here’s Sarah, the second shooter…

And here’s Aunt Sarah…
