Josiah on your 3rd Birthday

To my dear son Josiah on your 3rd birthday,

2 was the year of matchbox cars, train underwear, and The Little Engine that Could book.

When you were 2 you regularly asked me Can I play? and Can I pray? – both phrases sounding exactly the same.

You prayed thank you for all of your family members by name and then thank you for the trees.

When you were 2 you longed to go outside and “go somewhere.”  I think you would have left with the milkman to get out of the house if I would let you.

When you were 2 you spent most of your time pretending to be a kitty, a turtle, or a lion.

When you were 2 you decided pickles were the greatest food there is.

When you were 2 you flashed your magical grin and melted me ever time.  No seriously… every time.

But today, Josiah, you are 3, and so begins a new year of adventures and moments to cherish for a lifetime.  Happy birthday, my little son.

Love always,

Momma

Eric + Meghan, Altoona, PA Wedding Photography

Cowboy Eric – That’s how she programed him into her cellphone after their first meeting.  He was handsome.  And sweet.  And wearing a wide brimmed hat.  You don’t see that often on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts.

He noticed her eyes.  Her hair.  Her smile.  Everything about her radiated joy.

The Central Pennsylvania farm boy fell hard for the Massachusetts beauty… fell hard enough that he admits to missing hunting season that year.

Eric and Meghan, thanks for keeping it real and for a romance that inspires.

A few details from the lovely day…

This was a gorgeous church.

Meghan really knew how to make her groom laugh.

This picture was taken on a high spot at the groom’s family’s farm.

I adored the lighting behind this barn.

Meghan, your smile is magnificent.

I wanted to share this picture because it inspired me so deeply.  There was so much life in this beautiful woman’s eyes.  I hope some day my eyes radiate a lifetime of living like this woman’s eyes do.

Father’s Day – Altoona, PA wedding photographer

Let me tell you about why I am able to be a wedding photographer.  Every Saturday that I have a wedding, Matt, my loving husband, has a date with our four, small children.  Matt takes these dates very seriously.  They are creative and fun.   From a bus trip for ice cream at the mall to an amusement park adventure, he plans and plans.  And together they make memories.  The kids see my wedding photography days as special Daddy days.

Four little people have made him a daddy.  I know that some of the deepest desires of his heart are met in that role.

Happy Father’s Day, my love.

This picture is Matt, Josiah, and Matt’s grandfather making lumber from a felled tree this past fall.

Amy + Mike, Johnstown, PA wedding photographer

Details.  Amy is a genius of details – elegant, beautiful, thoughtful details.  She knew this would be the most glorious day of her life, and she didn’t overlook a thing.  From sugar-free candy favors on Grandma’s seat, to pictures of both sets of parents on their wedding days, to the table numbers corresponding with the groom’s favorite hockey players.

I walked into the reception venue early on in the day to sneak a few pictures before the hubbub began and ran into Amy’s parents.  “This was all Amy’s genius,” they told me with great pride in their daughter.

Amy, you have a gift – a capacity to reflect beauty both in the physical world as you organize an extravaganza and to reflect the beauty of your glowing inner joy.

Thanks for letting me experience your genius.

We had fun snapping a few pictures before the ceremony of Amy in her suite at the Holiday Inn.  You’re gorgeous, Amy.

You don’t look too shabby yourself, Mike : )

I loved this shot in sepia.

This was taken on the UPJ campus.

The light was magnificent at this time of the day.

Then we headed up to the inclined plane for some more shots (and more great lighting!)

This was definitely a group that knew how to have fun.

A few details…

Anya – my summer girl

Is it summer yet? she asked me in February after a vacation down South.

Is it summer yet? she asked me in March and started daily donning her bathing suit first thing in the morning.

Is it summer yet? she asked me in April while wearing the bathing suit outside in 60 degree weather and squirting herself down with the hose.

Is it summer yet? she asked me every day in early May, mid May, and late May.

Well, my daughter Anya Joy, Memorial Day has arrived, and for Garber family purposes, I now decree, IT IS SUMMER YET!

Let the pool parties, creek walks, sunburns, swim till you drop on your bed ready to dream about swimming all night long- let the summer begin!

[…] right I’ll just say it: I want summer. I miss it in the worst […]
